About the collaboration
Asahi Wood is a Japanese furniture manufacturer, producing pieces designed by acclaimed Danish designer Hans Sandgren Jakobsen and represented globally by Your Brand Partner in collaboration with Bernstorffsminde and the BM1837 collection. The partnership reflects a natural affinity between Danish and Japanese design traditions, both rooted in a shared respect for simplicity, material honesty, and quiet functionality.
Danish design meets Japanese craftsmanship
While the design is Danish, the craftsmanship is distinctly Japanese. Asahi Wood’s precision manufacturing brings Hans Sandgren Jakobsen’s designs to life with exceptional attention to detail, a fitting match, as Denmark and Japan share a long-standing mutual respect for design that values restraint over excess.
The collection
The BM1837 collection features the Bridge chair and the Elegance chair and table. The Elegance chair weighs just 2.2 kg, making it one of the lightest chairs on the market, yet strong enough for daily use, a balance of delicacy and durability that reflects both design cultures.
